I finally completed the painting on this piece. The sword, the medals and the thin white piping all over. It makes for a neat and attractive display.
I have built up a personal collection of miniature figurines. Starting with commercially available kits, the collection was gradually built up to represent various aspects of military subjects and now, includes many other unique figures which represent cultural subjects, all sculpted from epoxy putty, plastic and metal over wire armatures. This blog will record the curation of this diverse and evolving collection.

Imrie-Risley AWI Boy Drummer 10 Finished
One observation was that the drum skin was too pristine and could show marks of having been used. Hence, I painted tiny spots to represent drumbeat points.

WW1 Tommy 7
The haversack was attached to the figure by a small wire drilled and inserted for strength. The sling was then made from thin metal strip and detailed with a couple of buckles.
Rank and service chevrons were sculpted onto the sleeves. I will add either a divisional shape to the upper right arms for added insignia. Then the figure will be painted first before I add another load to his back.

WW1 British Postman 7
This is the proposed base for this piece. It represents a small road scene and the bricks were laid singly onto white glue.

Mokarex Cantiniere
I selected this piece for an easy conversion. The figure stands 54mm but the head and upper torso are too small in proportion. Hence, I snipped off the head and substituted a female head and bicorne. The nearest match for a bicorne is a cantiniere of the French Voltigeur of the Imperial Garde. A added putty to the upper torso and arms. The hands were also substituted.
Teutonic Knight
I rediscovered this old converted piece. It is a 75mm Clydecast metal casting of a knight. The head has been substituted and horns have been added to the helmet.
WW1 Tommy 6
After careful sculpting of the tunic and sleeves, the collar, pockets and buttons were added. I also scrapped at the details to soften the folds and drapery.
A groove was filed around the mid-torso to wind a thin string twice around the tunic. This represents the string that was used to tie the small box respirator bag to the body. When this had fully set, the water bottle strap was glued to the body.

Imrie-Risley AWI Boy Drummer 9 Finished
I searched for AWI newspapers around that period. Selected images were sized down and printed out in colour. These were cut out and made to look like contemporary 4 page newspapers of that time. The newspapers and maple leaves were carefully added with white glue to the scene..
The boy drummer is trampling through newspapers on a blustery day to raise the alarm" The Redcoats are coming!".

Imrie-Risley AWI Boy Drummer 8
I completed the groundwork for this piece.
Foliage was added to the groundwork. The tree had brass etch leaves added to represent a silver birch tree.
The leaves were painted light green yellow. The trunk was stippled in grey white paint. The whole piece was mounted onto a round base.

WW1 Tommy 5
The pose is finalised. The figure is part of a trench wire laying party when he has to run for cover from incoming artillery.

WW1 British Postman 4
Following an undercoat of brown enamel, defects were rectified. The back strap fastener with three buttons and back shoulder pads were added. The front left shoulder pad was resculpted. The hands were finally completed.
WW1 Tommy 4
A strap was added to the helmet which was then fixed to the head. The right thigh was built up, shoulder pads added and the tunic skirts were defined.
