I refined the ornamentation details. Other ornaments will be added to the vest when the paint is dry.
The drum hoops were also painted. The drum ropes are next.
I have built up a personal collection of miniature figurines. Starting with commercially available kits, the collection was gradually built up to represent various aspects of military subjects and now, includes many other unique figures which represent cultural subjects, all sculpted from epoxy putty, plastic and metal over wire armatures. This blog will record the curation of this diverse and evolving collection.

Cheshire Militia Bass Drummer 4
Some refinement was made to the figure. More putty was added to the thighs to create a muscular look. The plume was reduced in height.
Two metal brackets were made from copper wire and inserted into the drum shell.
A basic coat of paint was given to the figure and bass drum. Both parts have to be painted before final attachment of the drum to the figure.

Cheshire Militia Bass Drummer 3
The legs were reanimated at the knees to create a pose which would be handling a large bass drum. The towering plume was sculpted with putty over a long bent wire. Arms were sculpted over wire armatures. These were fitted around the bass drum. Historex hands were fitted over the ends.
Jacket flaps were made from metal sheet. Gaps were filled in with putty. The decorative hat flap was also made from sheet metal. A round pin was substituted for the fragile drumstick.

Putty was added to shape the necks and elbow joints. A base is being made up with driftwood for this vignette.
Hussards de la Liberte trompette 1797
The trumpet was removed and replaced by a new piece. I decided to shorten the wire sling which was replaced as well. The cartridge box sling was also replaced with a slightly thicker metal strip. The right hand position was changed. The plume was replaced. These changes seem to live up the rather static nature of the pose.
The Spanish in Louisiana 4
I painted over the red turnbacks and cuffs, brightening up the previous red colour. This will be highlighted and shaded later.

The Spanish in Louisiana 3
Painting is well in progress. I used Schveningen blue for the coat and Ultramarine blue for the drum to create some contrast.
