I have selected some of the photos of this piece made about 1-2 years back into a single entry.
Musicians in this war typically used a long euphonium which blasted the sound upwards and backwards, depending on the angle in which the instrument was held.
This piece started from a toy euphonium. The casting was improved with putty and wire. I spent considerable effort into smoothing out the putty.
The figure was originally meant to be wearing only a frock coat but I then decided to add a backpack and other accoutrements to create further interesting detail. The head was from Shenandoah Miniatures built over a wire armature and some Historex legs. The frock coat tails were made from copper sheet metal.
This figure represents an Afro-American soldier jauntily striding along, a forerunner representative of the evolution of the jazz age in American music.
This figure is highly detailed and finely painted. Creating the coat from copper sheet was an interesting experience. The figure now forms part of someone else's collection.
