Another undercoat of paint was applied to highlight any defects. These were gently sanded or scrapped off. The sleeves were carefully trimmed down. More detail was added to the knapsack.

 This photo shows how the tincup is attached to the haversack strap.

 The figure was given a first coat of oil paint. The water bottle has been detailed with three attachments for the cloth strap.
