Celtic Warrior 3

I drilled holes to all the parts to insert wire. A new Pegaso head was substituted for the original which was too small. Epoxy glue was used to glue all the joints together. Below is a picture of the original kit for comparison.

Maxim mg

I have had this piece in the cupboard for over 30 years. This is an IR metal kit. The now-defunct company used to specialise in castings of 54mm weaponry. The detail was basic but the casting captured the overall look of the weapon.  It requires some additional detailing.

I propose to use this for a WWI Russian piece.

Celtic Warrior 2

I have decided to convert the pose. The legs were widened and the torso was lengthened.

Murat mounted 2

This is the converted Historex horse. I have removed part of the body to accommodate the saddle.

Murat mounted

I cut off the legs from this piece. Currently I am trying to fit it onto a converted Historex horse.

Luo Warrior riding cattle 2

This is the reference picture I intend to use. These warriorw had towering headdress made from black and white feathers and wore leopard animal skins.

The horns were shaped. I knocked up a rider for the cattle. The shield was sculpted from putty.

Celtic Warrior

I was rummaging through my grey army collection and came across this old kit from TimeMachine Miniatures. I believe that this was sculpted by Rendall Patton. The quality of the castings was quite good. The figure seems smaller than the usual 54mm size.

I propose to do a simple conversion on this piece.

Heian Palace Guard 11

For the deer, an epoxy putty dummy was draped over the tree and allowed to harden. The feet and head were attached with wire to this dummy and adjusted.

More foliage is now being added to the scene.

Gong Ageng

I was going thru my grey army collection and picked up this piece designed by myself in toy soldier style. I think that I may try to use this in a realistic conversion.

It is a drum support (gayor) and is meant to support two drums used in a Javanese gamelan orchestra.

Heian Palace Guard 10

I located an old deTara kit deer and decided to use this casting in this piece. The pictures show the casting for reference before I use it in a conversion.

Heian Palace Guard 9

More white glue was added to the groundwork and crystalline snow was added to the groundwork.

I added some brass leaves to the trees. Small holes were drilled into the twigs and the brass foliage was inserted and superglued into position. The trees will be further augmented and other foliage added. This proposed additional foliage is to add colour and to fill in the gaps in this rather bleak and desolate vignette.

Portuguese Drummer 12 - finished

The final stretch for this piece.

I glued the drum to the figure and finalised the painting of the piece.

A nice base was selected and a scene with a dilapidated low brick wall was created. Dried grass was added and final groundwork was blended into the base. The rest of the base was carefully built up with putty to match the setting to the wood base.

The figure was then inserted into the cork groundwork and a final title was painted on the base.

FINISHED!

Luo warrior riding cattle

I selected a base for this piece. As the original base was too small to accommodate the cattle, another piece of cork was added and the base was built up with putty to extend the proposed rustic setting.
This was then colored with paint to match the base.

Heian Palace Guard 8

I added the quivers and also a steel wire for the bow string. A drop of epoxy glue was added to each end of the bow to strengthen the joint.

Final painting was done to the bowstring. The robe was given a tint of alizarin crimson.

Two tree stumps made from twigs were added to give some external protection against bumps to the bow and tachi (long sword). The trees also help to frame the scene.

A snow scene is being developed for this piece.

Heian Palace Guard 7

I painted the mon heraldry on the robe and glued on the accessories. I still have to add the arrows to the box quiver and bowstring. Photography was rushed, done under poor lighting.

Heian Palace Guard 6

Deciding that this was a low-hanging fruit as I ease myself back into modelling, I cleaned up the blemishes and repainted this piece over the weekend. I have actually progress much further than this picture.

Luo warrior riding cattle

When I was restoring the Luo warrior, I came across other images of Luo warriors, wearing animal skins and with imposing headdress, riding cattle in a ceremony. There were also other nice looking shield patterns.

So I've decided to model another Luo warrior riding cattle.

A resin cow was cut up and repositioned. Legs were from Preiser.

Updated Luo Warrior

I have just refurbished and repainted an earlier piece made more than 20 years ago.

The figure was cleaned up, minor blemishes were removed and it was fully repainted.
