Mask dancers of the Sulka, PNG

These pieces were made about 25 years back. I had refurbished them a few years ago, especially with the use of raffia grass to cover most of the bodies, in place of sculpted putty. The figures were also placed in elaborate displays.

They represent the Hemlaut and Tokati masks as was worn by the Sulka tribe of Papua New Guinea in their ceremonial rites.
