WWI British Postman

I came across this picture and decided to model a figure in a greatcoat. The unusual looking large postbag looked very interesting.

I cut up a basic torso and used the puttee legs from a Scalelink figure. After animation, the legs were covered with epoxy putty to  lock in the stance. This is important as the next step was to wrap some metal sheet around the legs which should not move.

A copper sheet was cut to size and wrapped around the figure.

Following further trimming, more putty was placed around the waist and the copper sheet was carefully wrapped around the figure and allowed to set. Then more putty was added to smooth in the overall shape and wrinkles. A rectangular shape representing the postbag was made and pressed against the body. A small moustache was added to the face.

This picture demonstrates the intended overhang of the copper sheet to show the underside of the figure.

This shows the back view.

Further modelling was done to shape up the postbag.

The back view of the figure shows that the collar and pocket flaps have also been added.
