Indian Troops

Around this time, I made some prototypes of Indian figures, creating a hybrid toy-model soldier style. This was largely exploratory and these few figures are what remained of this foray for now.

Tippoo Sultan is a favourite theme of mine. This sultan had a particular fascination with tigers.  I saw the strange screeching organ with a tiger mauling a soldier at the Victoria and Albert Museum and also made a prototype of that. I can't locate it now but this figure represents one of Tippoo's troops, dressed in symbolic tiger stripes.

These figures were converted Marx figures approximating 55-60mm.

Another figure created was a typical Indian regiment bugler, using a Historex head and arms, the rest was Milliput.

Other figures included an ugly Bengal mounted figure ( the braiding was represented by the horizontal marks) and a prototype Madras Cavalry officer with separate torso and legs, for which I made a few ugly castings. The third figure was to represent an Indian policeman. I had made this figure as part of a diorama featuring a Chinese Lion Dance. The Chinese Lion Dance was sold to a collector, and the diorama was broken up.
